About Mr. Sherif Awad

Dr Sherif is a Consultant Laparoscopic, Bariatric & Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon based at East-Midlands Bariatric & Metabolic Institute (EMBMI), Royal Derby Hospital. He is also Trustee (previously Professional Educational Lead & Council Member)  of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) - the main body representing Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery in the UK. Dr  Sherif’s expertise is recognized internationally and he is regularly invited to deliver International and National lectures on, amongst other topics, improving safety, outcomes and surgical pathways for patients undergoing Bariatric surgery. Dr Sherif co-authored international guidelines on Enhanced Recovery After Bariatric Surgery (ERAS), a protocol aimed at standardizing care, reducing complications and improving outcomes for patients. Dr Sherif works with a specialist dedicated multi-disciplinary team with a focus on evidence-based practice, attention to detail, delivering quality personalized care, and ensuring the best outcomes are sought for every patient. Dr Sherif accepts referrals for self-pay patients.

A fellowship-trained surgeon, Dr Sherif has specialist expertise in advanced keyhole surgery and performs Bariatric (Obesity & Weight loss) Surgery, and procedures to deal with acid reflux and hiatus hernia, gallstones, gastric (stomach) and oesophageal (gullet) cancer, small bowel resections/surgery for adhesions, and surgery for abdominal and groin hernias.
